Schindler to equip world’s tallest residential tower in India
Schindler is to supply 25 elevators for a new residential complex in Mumbai. The contract includes mobility solutions for a 450-meter building called ‘World One’, which will be the world’s highest residential tower. It will be equipped with some of India’s fastest elevators, capable of speeds of up to eight meters per second.
Schindler elevators will serve two of complex’s three residential buildings, including the 117-storey World One tower. In total, Schindler is providing 18 Schindler 7000 elevators for the two towers, as well as seven machine-roomless elevators.
The complex is located on a seven-hectare (17-acre) site in Mumbai’s Upper Worli neighborhood and is a project of Lodha Developers, one of the city’s largest real estate companies, and architects, Pei Cobb Freed & Partners.
“We are delighted to have been chosen for these landmark buildings,” said the Managing Director of Schindler India, Uday Kulkarni. “We have supplied many of Lodha Developers’ projects in the past and we are proud to have a strong relationship with India’s leading property developer.”
The World One tower will house 300 luxury apartments and, thanks to its unusual curved form, will offer spectacular 360-degree views of the city. The completed building is expected to achieve Gold LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) from the United States Green Building Council.
Installation of the elevators is scheduled to start in 2013. The order was booked in the first quarter of 2012.
