Offering scholarships for technical education
Schindler Igniting Minds was designed to offer students from disadvantaged backgrounds the means to pursue technical education. By offering scholarships to technical training institutes, Schindler gives young people who may otherwise have to give up their studies the opportunity to continue their education and gain employable skills. This is in line with the Skill India Initiative launched by the government in 2015, aiming to train 400 million people by 2022.
The program started off in Mumbai and Pune and has since expanded to over 12 states in North, Central and South India. Over 700 students have received scholarships so far and another 300 students will benefit from this support in 2019.
Easing the transition from school to the workplace
During their studies, Schindler India doesn’t just provide financial support, they also deliver soft skills training aimed at easing students’ transition from school to the workplace. Additionally they have introduced a gender angle into the program by partnering with all girls technical training institutes in Mumbai.
