As part of its corporate social responsibility of reaching out to local communities and societies, and in line with 2017 being named as the Year of Giving in the United Arab of Emirates (UAE), employees of Schindler, a mobility company specialized in elevator and escalator solutions, recently conducted the Joy of Giving initiative as they visited the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children (DFWAC) on August 29, 2017.
For a society free of violence
Recognizing the worthy cause of DFWAC in providing shelter for female and children victims of domestic violence, child abuse, and human trafficking, Schindler UAE presented in-kind donations that symbolize mobility: bicycles for boys and girls, swing chairs and high chairs for babies, with the hope that these gifts will bring joy to the hearts of children and mothers and be the beginning of a long-lasting partnership between Schindler and the DFWAC.
Matteo Napoli, Managing Director of Schindler UAE, addressed the Foundation representatives and thanked them for the opportunity given to the employees of the company to contribute, in their humble ways, and expressed their support to the noble cause of the DFWAC. He also reinforced the foundation’s vision of “a society free of violence” and echoed their ambition cited by the Director General of DFWAC, H.E Afra Al Basti, “to turn Dubai into a city that is free of all forms of violence, an oasis that brings life to all the people around it.”
Representing the Foundation, Ms. Noura Mohamed El-Sheikh, stressed the importance of empowering women and providing them a chance for a better future through a joint effort with the Foundation, the local government and the private sector.
The Dubai Foundation for Women and Children (DFWAC) is the first licensed non-profit shelter in the UAE for women and children victims of domestic violence, child abuse, and human trafficking. It was established in July 2007 to offer victims immediate protection and support services in accordance with international human rights obligations.
